Scientists have discovered a new way to reduce the risk of developing diabetes

Diabetes is a huge problem in the modern world. According to statistics from the International Diabetes Association, by 2030, about 552 million people will suffer from diabetes – that is, approximately 1 out of 10 adults. The World Health Organization estimates that there are about 346 million people who suffer from this disease today.

The projected increase in the number of patients with diabetes is mainly associated with aging and obesity, however, among children and adolescents there is a noticeable increase compared with previous years. Even 20 years ago, diabetes was not found in people of such a young age. The fact is that type 2 diabetes can still be prevented if you lead a good lifestyle. Doctors try to impress upon patients the importance of exercise and diet.

One study identified five simple habits that can reduce a person’s diabetes risk by as much as 80%.

– Eat a healthy diet that includes a lot of vegetables and fruits.

– Exercise at least 3 times a week for 20 minutes.

– Maintain normal body weight.

– Refrain from smoking.

– Consume moderate amounts of alcohol.

The most effective of these factors is maintaining a normal body weight. Men of normal weight are 70% less likely to develop diabetes than those who are obese. Women with normal weight – by 78%. However, overweight people who adhere to other factors of a healthy lifestyle still reduce the risk of developing diabetes.
