Principles of catering on the table number 9

Table 9 for diabetes is prescribed when the disease is mild or moderate. The purpose of the diet is the normalization of carbohydrate and fat metabolism. In the diet of the patient are limited carbohydrates (especially “fast”), animal fats and high-calorie foods. The nutritional value of food is slightly reduced in comparison with the menu of a healthy person. It is prescribed to eat food often, but in small portions. You also need to minimize or completely eliminate fried foods, spicy, salty, alcohol. The amount of protein in the diet should match the diet of a healthy person. It is recommended to bake, stew, cook (including steamed) dishes.      

Treatment of diabetes by diet on table number 9 allows to achieve compensation of the disease. This means that the patient has reached the blood glucose levels characteristic of a healthy person. With a compensated disease, the symptoms of diabetes mellitus do not bother the patient.

What can and can not diabetics on the table number 9

Table 9 in diabetes mellitus recommends the use of fresh non-starchy vegetables, fruits with a low glycemic index, cereals (with the exception of white rice and semolina). Low-fat dairy products are allowed – low-fat cottage cheese, milk, dairy products, non-spicy cheese such as Adyghe or Suluguni. Salads are best served with low-fat yoghurt or vegetable, olive oil. It is preferable to use lean meat varieties – beef, rabbit, turkey, chicken. Sausage and ham are allowed if they are made from lean meat and have a natural composition. The diet should contain fish, especially red – it contains omega-3 acids necessary for the body .   

The table number 9 in diabetes prohibits the consumption of fatty meat (pork, goose, duck), white rice and products based on it, semolina and products from it, pasta from flour of the highest grade. You can not eat spicy and salty – such foods increase appetite, cause thirst and excessive water consumption. It is necessary to limit the butter and fatty cheeses, sour cream with a high percentage of fat content.

Alcohol is excluded, because it has a high calorie content, and also causes a sharp increase in blood glucose levels. Of the alcoholic beverages acceptable a small amount of dry wines that do not contain sugar.
