This terrible itch with psoriasis! How to get rid of it?

Psoriasis is an incurable skin disease in which pink spots appear on the body, characterized by increased flaking. Most often, psoriasis is accompanied by itching, and only 20% of the lucky ones have never encountered it. In this case, itching is of varying degrees – ranging from moderate to those that interfere with a normal lifestyle. So, an irresistible desire to scratch a place affected by psoriasis often leads to bleeding, and subsequently to a greater sensitivity of nerve endings. And because of this, the feeling of itching only intensifies.

Pink spots on the body from psoriasis are called plaques that can appear anywhere in the body. Psoriasis is often found in the folds of the skin, on the nails, and even in the scalp. And if the disease goes away with itching, it brings discomfort to both the patient and others. The positive thing is that itching can be eliminated, but for this it is necessary to find out the cause of its occurrence.

Causes of itching

The main cause of itching in a patient with psoriasis is an excess of free radicals in the skin tissue. Exceeding the norm, they lead to dryness and keratinization of the skin, from which, in fact, itching occurs. A considerable influence on the appearance of itching is exerted by a person’s sensitivity to pain. Stress, depression, various chemical and food products weaken the body, thereby increasing the desire to scratch. At the same time, isolation of the patient from contact with irritants leads to a decrease in itching.

The most common factor in the increase in itching is food, which causes an allergic reaction of the body. Spicy and fatty foods, fish, coffee, tea and chocolate, meat and alcoholic beverages can cause another outbreak of the disease, and, consequently, feelings of itching.

Rashes and itching with psoriasis in most cases are caused by a side effect of diseases already existing in the body, such as diabetes mellitus, diseases of the nervous and endocrine systems, liver and blood vessels, and gastrointestinal diseases.

The use of medicines and skin contact with chemicals is no exception in the appearance of itching. Harmful working conditions also play a big role in this.

As soon as the cause of psoriasis and the accompanying itching is discovered, the patient is isolated from “harmful” contacts. But, even after eliminating the root cause, there is no guarantee that the itching in psoriasis will completely stop. In most cases, to completely eliminate the symptoms of the disease, it is necessary to carry out complex treatment.

Psoriasis Itching

In order to get rid of the unpleasant feeling of itching, it is necessary to use an external treatment for psoriasis. The means of local therapy include ultraviolet radiation, ultrasound, cryotherapy, the use of various ointments, creams and so on.

To moisturize the skin several times a day, a lotion is applied to the skin. Relieving inflammation, mineral water treatment shows good results. In folk medicine, to eliminate itching with psoriasis, use dill, nettle and elecampane high. Also, infusion of valerian and thyme is used to relieve itching.

There are many ways to eliminate skin itching with psoriasis. The main thing is not to despair and find what really suits you. And remember, for a long time to forget about the desire to comb psoriatic plaques to the blood, you need to obey the doctor’s recommendations and carry out the prescribed treatment according to all the rules. Well, and besides, you need to eat right, lead a healthy lifestyle, not be nervous about trifles and try not to come into contact with those things that can provoke an exacerbation of the disease.
