Risk factors for developing diabetes

Diabetes is one of the insidious diseases. In the early stages, it is asymptomatic. However, diabetes is preventable. One of the important conditions is knowing whether a particular person is at risk of developing diabetes.

Risk factors:

  • diabetes mellitus in parents;
  • diabetes mellitus in one of the identical twins;
  • overweight;
  • hypertonic disease;
  • atherosclerosis.

The risk group also includes women who have given birth to a child weighing 4 kilograms or more, as well as who have had complications at any stage of pregnancy (toxicosis, fetal death).

If a family member can identify himself as a risk group, he should immediately consult a doctor and undergo all the necessary examinations. Prevention of diabetes and its early detection can prevent the development of the disease in many patients.
