Diabetes compensation

Elevated blood sugar is the main symptom of any type of diabetes mellitus (both insulin-dependent and non-insulin dependent ). Let’s try to figure out what is the difference between a healthy person and a patient who suffers from diabetes. In a person without diabetes, the pancreas, with an increase in blood sugar (after eating), increases the amount of insulin that enters the bloodstream ( see the upper figure ), and when it decreases, it automatically slows down this process. This mechanism was called the “autopilot” of the pancreas. As for patients with diabetes mellitus, this “autopilot” fails. That is, in diabetes mellitus , insulin ceases to enter the bloodstream. This leads to the fact that after a meal, the blood glucose level does not decrease. At the same time, it not only goes beyond the normal range, but also exceeds the renal threshold, as a result of which glucose begins to enter the urine ( see lower figure ). In this case, the patient must take the steering wheel in his hands and begin to independently perform all the functions of the “autopilot” that has become unusable.         Recall that in healthy people, the fasting blood glucose level should not be higher than 5.5 mmol / L. After eating, this indicator can rise to 7.8 mmol / l, but no more. People without diabetes shouldn’t have sugar at all in their urine . If the patient manages to achieve these indicators or as close to them as possible, then we can talk about the successful compensation of diabetes mellitus.  Every patient with diabetes should be aware of the signs of hyperglycemia (a condition in which blood sugar is elevated):  Thirst;Weakness;Fast fatiguability;Heavy, frequent urination;Wolf hunger (when you want to eat even once after eating);Dry mouth;Itchy skin, etc.In this case, people with type 1 diabetes regulate their blood sugar with insulin injections. For this, there are syringe pens (Novo-Pen 4, OptiPen Pro 1 , etc.). It is convenient to store and transport such devices in special MedMag bags and cases .    Compensation for type diabetes mellitus implies a change in diet, an increase in the intensity of physical activity, weight loss, which allows not only to normalize blood sugar levels, but also to abandon the sugar-lowering pills for diabetes mellitus.  It should be noted that the special value of diabetes compensation lies in the fact that it allows people with such a diagnosis to lead a normal life, achieving personal life goals. But at the same time, it is important that maintaining health does not turn into the meaning of life.
